Supervising

Lecturer

Any lecturer at Tallinn University who has an idea for a LIFE project can take on the role of a supervisor. To initiate an idea, it is necessary to establish an initial framework for the topic, either individually or with a co-supervisor/partner. To submit a new project, you need to log into the website using your Tallinn University account. The idea will be reviewed for substantive improvements and then approved by the LIFE Council.

A LIFE project idea must meet the following criteria:
·         a clearly defined initial objective;
·         the topic is interdisciplinary, meaning it requires knowledge from various disciplines and their integration;
·         the problem allows different solution options and limitations;
·         the topic is authentic and requires the creation of new knowledge that the student does not yet possess

You can find information about the project idea submission dates in the LIFE calendar or the academic calendar.

For more information, contact the ELU coordinator (elu@tlu.ee).

Partner

An external partner (entrepreneur, NGO, organization, etc.) can also act as a supervisor for a LIFE project. The partner can submit their initial project idea through the LIFE website without having a Tallinn University account or logging in. However, to add a more detailed project concept, it is necessary to log into the website – to obtain an account, the partner should contact elu@tlu.ee. Additionally, the partner will need a mentor from Tallinn University to implement the project - the LIFE coordinators can assist in finding one.
Partners are not compensated for carrying out the project, but they can gain substantive benefits. It is the partner's responsibility to reach agreements with the students regarding intellectual property and, if necessary, to sign contracts.

Student

The students also have the opportunity to complete the LIFE course by supervising a LIFE project on a topic of their choice.

To do this, the student must submit their LIFE project idea on time through the LIFE website. To submit a new project, the student must log into the website using their Tallinn University account. The idea will be reviewed for substantive improvements and then approved by the LIFE Council. The student will continue by supervising the LIFE project based on their idea.

All supervising students will be assigned a mentor from Tallinn University’s faculty, who will support the student in implementing the project idea and achieving the learning outcomes of the LIFE course. The supervising student must be ready to lead a group of six students. Knowledge of project management (including time planning, role distribution, and taking responsibility) and teamwork processes will be beneficial for the supervising student.

All supervising students who submit their ELU project idea and subsequently supervise an ELU project are eligible for a stipend. For more information about the stipend, contact the ELU coordinators (elu@tlu.ee).
