The Banned Books Museum - Developing a Seminar on Censorship for Educators and Librarians

Our social enterprise needs your help to bring skills and knowledge to educators and librarians around the world!

The aim of the project

Our aim is to develop a intervention, a seminar, that will can give educators and librarians an increased understanding of the topic of literary censorship. After completing our seminar, they will be better equipped to communicate about this nuanced and sensitive subject, and be more able to make informed decisions about what books might and might not be included in public displays, educational programmes, and other literary collections.

We aim to test our seminar in May 2025 with two partners, one in Estonia and another in another European country. The feedback from those tests will allow us to make adjustments and decide on the future trajectory of the seminar.

Projekti tulemused

The Banned Books Seminar project developed and delivered an educational seminar initiative in partnership with Romanian NPO EduCab to give librarians skills in understanding and recognising literary censorship. The seminar was designed over a six week period and delivered in April 2025 in Bucharest, Romania. The ten participating librarians provided highly positive feedback, and the outcomes from the seminar will lay the foundations for future educational initiatives by the Banned Books Museum to empower librarians around the world.
