Ever felt confused about how to really make right choices when recycling your plastic waste? What about trying to make a right, sustainable decisions when purchasing goods but being unable to tell if primary plastic or recycled plastic was used in making them, and if this even matters, really? We hear you. In fact, we really get confused about this on pretty regular basis, and it is frustrating to realise it is not easy to get things right. So, why would we even pretend we can get it right, and should we indeed bother? In this project, we will learn together some more delicate details about recycling plastic, and about using recycled plastic in products, like electric home appliances or even cars.
Should we, in fact, prefer cars where some conventional plastic parts are replaced with recycled plastic? Is it safe, to begin with; and is it even making a difference in terms of sustainability? Well, and what if we decided to engage in political purchasing and only hire Bolt-drivers with cars where they did use recycled plastic - would it even be possible? How do I know if a car I want to rent is produced with plastic parts made partly or fully of recycled plastic? Or, imagine to be working for the (online) store. Then - how to make customers even notice that some of the fridges sold have been produced with recycled plastic, when others have not? Furthermore: how to explain to them what the difference really is? And, is there really a difference? We will work with these questions, with the aim to figure out how everyone personally feels about the topic, so that by the end of the ELU project you will be able to make up your own informed decisions.
And - please note: we do not expect that we will all get to the same conclusions! In fact, this is one of the important issues we will explore in the project: how do individual preferences differ, and what makes them differ. So if you happen to be among those who do not worry about the sustainable economy, or who doubt plastic recycling is getting us closer to sustainability, you are welcome to join this ELU. The aim is to hear different arguments and be able to reach to one's own decision.
This project investigates the ways international students in Estonia form communities and share their cultures. Students will explore the channels and online platforms used for cultural connections, offering insights into the dynamics of these networks. This project provides an opportunity for students to examine the experiences of international students in Estonia, with the flexibility to choose between surveying or conducting short interviews as part of their exploration. It also includes a video-making component where students present a discovered community, capturing its online and offline activities.
"Beyond the Facade" is a transformative project through which students will explore the complex world of pseudo-activism, analyzing performative actions that mimic genuine engagement without creating substantive change. This project incorporates a filming component, allowing students to immerse themselves in role-playing these acts for their other fellow students in the project. By capturing audience reactions and gathering student self-reflections, it adds a dynamic dimension to the project, enabling us to interpret how the cause captures attention.
The project is inspired by the necessity to create an approachable way for language learners to discover museums. Language opens up the path to seek out more about culture, culture, on the other hand, inspires and motivates the language learner. Museums help understand culture and history better and can create a platform for many people from different backgrounds to share a sense of belonging and community. At the moment, most museums don't have a specific way to support language acquisition: you're either able to read and listen on the same level as the mother tongue speaker, or you're destined to use translated materials. We are in a position to change that.
The primary objective of this project is to explore the applications and potential benefits of telepresence robots in providing support and companionship for the elderly. Students will investigate how telepresence technology can be effectively integrated into elderly care settings to enhance social interaction, reduce isolation, and improve overall well-being.
This project aims to introduce and implement artificial intelligence tools into the process of learning about human rights at the University level. New learning and assessment methods will be developed and tested in order to enhance innovation in the process of knowledge transfer.
In project participants will identify a specific problem related to misinformation and misrepresentation, define a way of approaching that subject, which they will research in detail, they will elaborate a non-fiction audiovisual artistic work that directly dialogues with the subject and represents their critical vision of it. These projects will be made up of teams of four (one person from each Alliance member: UL-Lisbon, IADT-Dublin, BFM-Tallinn, LUCA-Brussels).
